Organize Your Project Media Folder Before Starting in Premiere Pro

You'll rename the Common Media Folder with your own name, preview the artist photos and drone footage with Quick Look, and sort each media folder into the right numbered subfolder. This gets everything ready for a new Premiere Pro project.

1Open the Project Folder

Step 1, Note
Open the Unzipped Project Folder
Download and unzip the project file, then open the 1450 Project 2 Premiere folder in Finder. Inside you'll find several folders, including Artist Photos, Common Media Folder, Drone Footage 720p, Logos, Music Options and Voiceovers.
Step 2, Click
Switch to List View
Open the View menu in the menu bar and choose as List so you can see every folder and file in one list.
Tip
Press ⌘2 to switch to list view without opening the menu.
Step 3, Click
Expand the Common Media Folder
Click the small arrow to the left of Common Media Folder to show the numbered folders inside it, from 01 Premiere Project Files to 06 Paperwork.

2Rename Your Folder

Step 4, Key
Put the Folder in Rename Mode
Click Common Media Folder once to select it, then press Return. The name becomes editable and the text is highlighted.
Tip
Because the text is already highlighted, you don't need to delete it first. Just start typing.
Step 5, Type
Type Your Folder Name
Type 1450_LastName_FirstName_Project2, using your own last and first name, and press Return to save it.

3Preview Media Files

Step 6, Click
Expand Artist Photos
Click the arrow to the left of Artist Photos to show the images inside it.
Step 7, Key
Preview a Photo with Quick Look
Click one photo, such as Annie_JPG.JPG, one time, then press the Space bar. A Quick Look window opens with a preview of the photo.
Tip
Press the Space bar again at any time to close the preview.
Step 8, Key
Browse with the Arrow Keys
Leave Quick Look open and press the Down Arrow key. The preview jumps to the next file in the list, so you can step through every photo quickly.
Step 9, Key
Move Between Folders
Press the Left Arrow key to jump back up to the Artist Photos folder, then press Left Arrow again to collapse it. Press the Down Arrow key to select Drone Footage 720p, then press the Right Arrow key to expand it.
Tip
Quick Look stays open the whole time, so the preview keeps up as you move.
Step 10, Key
Preview the Drone Clips
Press the Down Arrow key to step through the drone clips and watch each one play in Quick Look. When you're done, press the Space bar to close Quick Look.
Tip
It's worth looking at your footage now so you know what you're working with.

Step 11, Drag
Move Artist Photos to Graphics
Drag the Artist Photos folder by its folder icon and drop it on 04 Graphics.
Tip
Always drag by the folder icon. Clicking the name twice can put it into rename mode, and dragging from empty space can select several items.
Step 12, Drag
Move Drone Footage to Video
Drag Drone Footage 720p by its folder icon and drop it on 02 Video.
Step 13, Drag
Move Logos to Graphics
Drag Logos by its folder icon and drop it on 04 Graphics.

Move Music Options to Audio
Drag Music Options by its folder icon and drop it on 03 Audio Sources.

Move Voiceovers to Audio
Drag Voiceovers by its folder icon and drop it on 03 Audio Sources too.
Tip
Music and voiceover are both audio, so they belong in the same folder.
Step 16, Result
Your Media Is Organized
In Finder, the 1450 Project 2 Premiere folder now holds your renamed 1450_LastName_FirstName_Project2 folder, which contains 01 Premiere Project Files through 06 Paperwork, plus Sample Final- Rock the Vote.mov. The loose media folders are gone, and 02 Video, 03 Audio Sources and 04 Graphics show today's date as modified.
